Winona Rotary Accepting Scholarship Applications

 

The Rotary Club of Winona is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for scholarships to attend the World Affairs Seminar this summer. Students in grades 10-12 who are currently enrolled in one of the Winona schools are eligible to apply. The World Affairs Seminar is a Rotary project that brings together several hundred high school students from around the world “to promote better understanding of world problems through a study of current issues, while at the same time providing the opportunity to discuss those issues with other young people from around the world.”

 

Because the Rotary Club of Winona strongly believes in providing our youth with opportunities to better understand global issues and peaceful paths towards conflict resolution, the club will award two $600 scholarships to cover the full cost of registration, meals, and lodging. Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their transportation to and from the seminar site.

 

This year’s World Affairs Seminar will be held at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, June 26 through July 2. The seminar theme for this year is “Global Fresh Water Challenge.” You can learn more about the seminar on www.worldaffairsseminar.org.

 

The deadline for submitting a scholarship application is March 31, 2010

The Winona Rotary Club meets weekly for two main purposes, to share in fellowship among its members, and to host interesting programs that provide insight into the happenings within our community and our world.
It is up to us as members to step up, share our ideas, and bring in speakers to share information with our fellow members.  2010 is a new year, and a new decade, and we need ideas on what you want to hear about.
On our website www.winonarotary.org, there is a place to share your ideas on what you want to learn more about, whether it be in our own backyard or across the world.   We all have our expertise in knowledge, and we all have contact with various interesting individuals and organizations.   Put on your thinking cap and share your ideas!!!
(If you don't want to go to the website, simply write your ideas on a piece of paper, and hand them to our president)

Welcome to the Winona Rotary Club

 

Welcome
Greetings, and Welcome to the homepage of the Rotary Club of Winona, MN. My name is Bob Spencer, and I am the Club Internet Communication Officer. I would like to invite you to look around, and feel free to email me if you have any questions. As Rotarians, we are dedicated to serving the Winona Community, and the entire world through this portal, by improving communication. We meet every Wednesday at noon, at Westfield Golf Course. You are welcome to join us and find out more about the group that is Rotary.

 

We have much to look forward to as Summer approaches. As schools dismiss students for the summer, our focus will switch from working with students, to working in and around the community. Over the school year we have spent countless hours in classrooms, reading to students, distributing dictionaries, and speaking to groups. But, over the summer we will be doing many things around the community. We will be cleaning up the lake, working on theater productions, and reaching out to others. Our motto is Service above Self. It's not just what we do, it's who we are.
